LIT Goes Green; Upgrades Airport BuildingsLittle Rock, Ark. (April 2, 2010) – Over 2.2 million annual passengers traveling through Little Rock National Airport (LIT) will soon benefit from facility enhancements. Energy Systems Group (ESG) has partnered with the airport in a multi-year $9 million energy savings contract for key energy conservation and building upgrades.
Underlining LIT’s green environmental initiatives, the project implemented by Energy Systems Group will reduce the airport's carbon footprint by over 4,900 metric tons of carbon dioxide and will provide the airport with over $650 thousand in energy savings each year, over the next fifteen years. This is equivalent to the reduction of emissions equivalent to removing approximately 940 vehicles from the road or to planting about 126,000 trees.
The energy conservation measures ESG will implement include HVAC and electrical system improvements, a new building automation system, lighting retrofits, a new backup generation system and the installation of a 1 KW wind turbine, demonstrating the use and benefits of renewable technology to passengers passing through LIT.
With the installation of new back up generation systems for the terminal and parking deck, LIT will also be positioned to benefit from reduced electric utility demand charges that are currently available through Entergy Arkansas.
"These improvements will significantly impact the long term energy costs of the airport and will support our ongoing efforts to safeguard the environment and conserve resources while reducing cost,” said Ron Mathieu, LIT executive director.
“Energy Systems Group is committed to implementing a comprehensive energy efficiency and facility improvement program that will augment LIT’s mission, commitment to sustainability and its significant economic impact on Little Rock,” said Sterling Miller, ESG regional director.
